Recruitment platform for construction workers in the US

BigHire — Linkedin-style platform

About BigHire

What is BigHire

BigHire is a U.S.-based platform that connects construction workers with contractors and employers. The goal is to create a seamless hiring process, allowing skilled workers to showcase their experience and enabling companies to find and hire the right talent efficiently.

Challenges

  1. Designing for Non-Tech-Savvy Users:
The primary users—construction workers—often lack technical proficiency. We had to design an onboarding process that was extremely intuitive, guiding users through only the most essential steps to create a profile. Striking the right balance between simplicity and informativeness was key, as the platform also serves as a recruitment tool for BigHire’s internal services.

  2. Solving the Network Effect Problem As with many platforms, BigHire faced the classic chicken-and-egg problem: workers wouldn’t register without employers, and employers wouldn’t register without workers. To address this, we introduced a shareable digital CV feature for workers, making registration valuable even without active employers on the platform. BigHire also partnered with trade schools to help students create CVs before graduation.

  3. Managing Reputation Risk Given BigHire’s partnerships with major companies, reputational risk from poor-quality user input was a serious concern. A simple reporting system wasn't sufficient; we developed an advanced admin moderation interface to ensure quality and trustworthiness across the platform.

Discovery

Understanding the vision and the market

We began by understanding the construction industry’s specific challenges and the needs of both workers and employers. The client already had a basic digital presence through a Wix site used for lead generation. Instead of replacing it, we preserved the existing branding and embedded a link to the newly developed app into the original site. This allowed for a seamless transition and kept existing channels intact.

Worker's profile & public CV

Laying the Foundation: Intuitive UX and Scalable Design for a Worker-Centric Platform

The first project was divided into two key parts: Planning & Design and Development.

In the Planning & Design phase, our UX designer worked closely with the client to map out the platform’s core user flows. The primary focus was designing an intuitive onboarding process tailored specifically for non-tech-savvy construction workers. The goal was to guide users through a simple, frictionless experience while collecting just enough information to make their profiles useful for employers.

Once a user completed their onboarding, they would receive a digital CV-style page they could share independently, even if no companies were actively using the platform yet. This approach helped solve the early-stage network problem by making the platform valuable from day one.

After finalizing the user flows and wireframes through multiple client workshops and iterations, we created a comprehensive design system. This system was built to align with the visual identity of the existing Wix site, but offered a full library of UI components and page templates to ensure efficient scalability. Thanks to this system, future pages could be designed and implemented quickly—often using just a rough sketch from the client as input.

With the design phase complete, we provided a precise development estimate, then moved into building the MVP. The result was a fully functional platform where trade school students could register, create their digital CVs, and begin using the system independently of employer activity.

Company Features & Monetization

Activating the Ecosystem: Employer Access and Revenue Model

With the foundation in place, we expanded the platform to support employer registration and candidate search. We carefully designed the filtering logic to avoid exacerbating the network effect—too narrow filters would show no results, too broad would reduce value. We introduced a credit-based system: employers buy credits to unlock worker contact details. Larger packages come with discounts, and Stripe handles all payments and invoicing.

Safeguarding Trust: Manual Moderation and Recruitment Support Tools

While the employer features were being tested with trusted partners, we built a robust admin interface. Rather than relying on a simple reporting system, every user-initiated data change goes through manual approval to avoid reputational risk. Admins can also search and filter worker profiles to support BigHire’s in-house recruitment service.

Future Vision: A Social Professional Hub

Looking Ahead: Building a Community Through Social and Educational Features

Based on user feedback and real-world usage, BigHire aims to evolve into a professional social hub. Upcoming features include social interaction tools for workers, experience sharing, and educational content to support career development and community engagement.

We are always open to new business and good talksConnect

Working with Digital Probe felt like having my own dedicated team, even from across the ocean. Despite never meeting in person, the collaboration was smooth, structured, and responsive. When challenges arose, the team was quick to reflect, adapt, and improve communication — something I truly appreciated.

Gábor and his team brought both technical expertise and strategic thinking to the table. They helped me prioritize what mattered most for the business, and were always open to feedback, even under pressure. As someone without a tech background, I valued how they bridged the gap between my vision and the development process.

I’d confidently recommend Digital Probe to anyone looking for a reliable, flexible, and growth-oriented partner.
